Renaissance
Review by Gary Hill
Vanilla Fudge may not be progressive rock, or they might. Either way they have seriously influenced and impacted prog rock from the beginnings and I've always included them there.

The Beat Goes On
Review by Steve Alspach
One criticism of progressive music is that it takes itself too seriously. This album is the poster child for that argument.

Then And Now
Review by Gary Hill
No one can fault the musical performances on this one. Vanilla Fudge has always been an incredible band capable of creating and producing incredibly complex and powerful arrangements, and this album is no exception to that rule. No, the real problem here comes in the form of repetition.

Then And Now - 2021 2-CD Edition
Review by Gary Hill
What can you count on with Vanilla Fudge? Well, you can count on great music that qualifies at least as proto-prog, if not full prog.

Vanilla Fudge
Review by Gary Hill
The Fudge is back! I'm sure we can all sit around and debate for ever if they are truly prog or not, but the truth of the matter is, even if they weren't early prog, and I am not sure the answer to that, they influenced so much prog that they have earned an honorary mention.

Vanilla Fudge - Live At Sweden Rock 2016 DVD/CD Set
Review by Gary Hill
Vanilla Fudge might be one of the strangest but also coolest bands to come out of the 1960s. Really, progressive rock didn't exist yet, but their sound was such a part of the kind of the thing that would become prog.

Carmine and Vinny Appice - Drum Wars: The Ultimate Battle DVD
Review by Gary Hill
The premise is interesting. Two brothers, both legends of the rock world (think Vanilla Fudge, Black Sabbath and more), both drummers, put together a show down to see which of them is the ultimate drummer. Let’s just say one thing right out front – both of these guys are incredible and I know you’ve heard their work on lots and lots of music, even if you might not know the names off hand.

Michael Schenker - Group - Live in Rosemont, Illinois August 2010
Review by Greg Olma

It’s been a quite a while since Michael Schenker and his band of metal merchants played a support slot here in the Chicago-land area but I guess filling in the “special guest” slot on the Scorpions farewell tour was too good to pass up.

Shuggie Otis - Inter-Fusion
Review by Gary Hill

This is being billed as "fusion rock," and that's a pretty apt description. We generally put fusion in under "progressive rock" at MSJ, so that's where this lands.

Cactus - Live DVD
Review by Gary Hill
I admit it; I’m a progressive rock and heavy metal junkie. That doesn’t mean that I don’t appreciate good old blues oriented 1970’s styled rock – who doesn’t?

Cactus - Live, Loud & Proud DVD

Cactus might not have gotten the attention that groups like Led Zeppelin and Cream did, but they were an extremely capable band cut from that same cloth of hard rocking, blues based classic jams.
