Yesstories-Yes In Their Own Words written by Tim Morse

Review by Gary Hill

Tim Morse created an intriguing book with this one. There is nothing unique about conducting interviews with artists when doing a book about them. What makes this one unusual is that rather than create a text of his own based on those interviews, Morse used the quotes strictly as spoken. He simply organized them in such a way as to tell the story with no embellishment or interpretation from Morse. The only words he adds to the book are short introductions to each segment.

Morse also showed his professionalism by not speaking to only a couple members of the band, or just the current ones. He spoke to every one who had ever been in the band up until that point, and that's not a short list. The story covers many aspects of the group, from its origins all the way up to what was the latest album at the time of publication -Talk.

Morse augmented his own interviews with quotes from other sources. Besides the interview segments the book includes a list of those sources, a selected discography, a list of fan publications, and some photographs. He also asked all of the band members past and present about both their favorite Yes works and their desert island discs.

Although the book is now a bit out of date, this is one of the few books about Yes that is still available. Taking that into consideration, along with the quality of the publication, makes this one that all true Yesheads should have.
