Leave It – 12-inch Single (Vinyl)

Although this is out of print, I’ve decided to review it at Music Street Journal. It used to be that we wouldn’t cover items that were out of print. The theory was, “why tell someone how great something is, if they can’t get it.” The reality is, though, things like this are pretty readily available on the internet and at reasonable prices. So, what about this particular item? I love the fact that it has two unreleased versions of “Leave It.” Each of those mixes is pretty effective. Sure, this is probably for Yes fanatics like myself only, but it’s worth having.

Leave It (Hello Goodbye Mix)
The section that opens this is atmospheric and dramatic. We’re taken out into a more traditional dance mix from there, but this is quite cool. The bits of vocals that are chosen for use work quite well. There are also some dramatic pieces of melody draped over the rhythmic backdrop. These things combine for a dance remix that works pretty well to just sit down and listen.

Leave It (Re-Mix)
Although this is listed as a “remix,” it feels pretty close to the original song. For that reason (and the sake of consistency) I’ll include my review of the song from the original album review here. The vocal arrangement is the best part of this track, and indeed that aspect alone makes this one a standout.
Leave It (Acappella)

Here we get a rendition of the song sans instrumentation. I remember this was one of a series of variant “Leave It” videos on MTV. Since the vocals were such a big part of this to begin with, it should be no surprise that it works quite well like this.
