TagYerit

Shimmer

In some ways this album has more world music and folk than anything else in the TagYerit catalog. That said, the same familiar blend of progressive rock with pop and other sounds is present here. TagYerit consistently presents music that’s a bit odd, but also quite accessible. While this would probably not be the best disc to start a TagYerit adventure, it should certainly please their fans.

Track by Track Review
Beyond da Feet

This is quite proggy and very bouncy and fun. It’s got a lot of twists and turns and is nicely strange at points. It even gets a bit jazzy at points.

Dryada
World music, jazz and progressive rock are merged with symphonic elements on this slower and mellower piece.
Pirate Bride
While the general motif isn’t that changed from the previous number, I really like this one more. It’s got a lot of drama and seems almost mysterious in some ways.
Mount Katahdin
Somehow this one doesn’t work as well as some of the other music here. It’s more purely world and folk music oriented and just feels a little awkward.
The Trick or Treat Trials (Sylvie)
More rock music is added to the mix here and this is a step up from the last tune. In fact, some of the jamming later in this number is among the best of the set.
Neat Junk
There’s a lot of jazz on display here. The arrangement is nicely off-kilter as it shifts and turns through some unusual changes and twists.
Neva Prepared
Here’s a great jazzy number. It certainly has a lot in common with the rest of the disc, but it’s got a lot more pure jazz in it.
Accelerate
Here’s one that seems to combine the best of all of the sounds of the disc, except for the world music sound. It is one of the more dynamic pieces here and really works well.
