Space Mirrors / Acid FM Split Vinyl

Review by Gary Hill

This split vinyl release features one song by the group Space Mirrors and one by Acid FM. Both are generally in the space rock category, landing this in the progressive rock category at Music Street Journal, but they both represent different sides of the coin for certain. The cover picture shown here has the front and back cover of the release on a diagonal from one another.

This review is available in book format (hardcover and paperback) in Music Street Journal: 2013  Volume 1 at lulu.com/strangesound.

Track by Track Review
Dreams of Area 51 - Space Mirrors

Keyboards open this and the cut works out into a cool mid-tempo space rock jam. I love the vocals on this thing. There is a gentle flow to them and a bit of a European vibe. There are some great layers of sound that come over the top in terms of soloing. The cut powers out into a more metallic jam for the chorus, but returns to the mellower section for the redeployment of the verse.  This really is quite a mysterious and powerful piece of music.

Space Beyond Space - Acid FM
Space rock meets Indie rock/DIY vocals on this cut. The jam later in the piece really takes on some Hawkwind like textures.
