Chords of Truth

Reflections of Reality (The Chameleon Acidfolk Remix) EP

Review by Gary Hill

The concept here is intriguing. The songs here all started as Chords of Truth songs, falling into the folk heading. Jason Garriotte, who essentially is Chords of Truth, made all the music from the debut album available for remixing. These songs here are some of those remixes. I find them to be a bit uneven. For instance, the first couple songs are pretty good, the next couple are stronger and the closer is tough to take because of the vocals. Overall, both in terms of the concept and the execution I’d consider this to be a modern progressive rock. Of course, your mileage may vary.

Track by Track Review
Tune Your Mind (The Chameleon Acidfolk Remix)

The music on this is pretty awesome, working through electronic, an almost dance music vibe and more. I’d actually land this into progressive rock. The vocals are a bit tough to take at times, though. Other parts work pretty well. The keyboard lines on this are killer.

Listen (The Chameleon Acidfolk Remix)
This is even better than the opener. For one thing, the vocals work better. For another the music has more of a progressive folk element. Somehow it’s more of a melodic song structure. There are still lots of electronic and other textures here, though.
Moments (The Chameleon Acidfolk Remix)
They just keep getting better. This is more like a folk prog piece done electronically. The vocals seem a bit odd, but also quite effective. The end result is a piece that is quirky and very cool.
The Power To Be Alive (The Chameleon Acidfolk Remix) Featuring Man-u-iLL
That same electronic folk prog sound is heard here, but there are some bits of rap in this. There are also some elements that make me think of Celtic music, just a bit.
What Life Is About (The Chameleon Acidfolk Remix) Featuring Christian Recca
This song is the toughest one to take. Some of the vocals are really bad here. Musically this is very busy with the rhythmic elements dominating in some ways that at times are distracting. Otherwise the basic principles remain unchanged here.
