Clocks and Clouds

Aliantha (digital single)

Review by Gary Hill

This is a trio consisting of cello, violin and drums. That allows this outfit (see my review of their earlier EP in this same issue) to create a fascinating and compelling mix of classical and rock music. It’s instrumental and it’s also impressive.

This review is available in book format (hardcover and paperback) in Music Street Journal: 2014  Volume 5 at lulu.com/strangesound.

Track by Track Review
Aliantha
Although this instrumental piece is essentially a classical number, it has plenty of rock here. That combination lands it under “progressive rock” as far as I’m concerned. It is also an amazing composition. The early sections have almost an ominous, evil tone to them. Later, though it gets into territory closer to modern technical metal. All in all, this is a real thrill ride. I like it a lot.

(Editor's Note - Music Street Journal is set up for the allocation of albums, not singles - particularly not one-song singles. So, in the instances, like this one, where we've covered single song releases, we've had to make some adaptations for formatting. In the case of this one, just imagine both track review and overall review reading as one set of copy. )
