The Austin Jones Band

Chasing the Wind

Review by Gary Hill

There are a lot of angles to the sound of this act. Everything from alternative rock, to pop, The Cure, Tool and more seems to be represented at different points. This is an effective set that somewhat defies categorization, really.

Track by Track Review
Living It Out

This cut is based on a great alternative rock meets pop groove. There is plenty of jam band sound here. There are some really soaring elements, too. The vocal arrangement and performance are great.

Come Home
A mid-tempo number, this has the same basic sound profile as the previous cut. The thing is, in some ways this makes me think of The Cure a bit. Whatever you call it, though, this is quite an effective piece of music.
A Darkness
There is a lot of great rocking energy here. The hooks are catchy and the whole piece just works so well. In fact, this is one of the best tunes of the set, really.
Chasing the Wind
The title track almost makes me think of something like Tool, just a little. That’s combined with the same kind of sounds we have heard to this point.
You and Me
Here we get more of a melodic alternative rocker It’s solid and accessible. It’s not my favorite thing here, though. I’m not sure it’s the best choice for closer, either.
