Ferris and the Wheels

Ferris and the Wheels

Review by Gary Hill

This act is a classy one. I previously reviewed one of their releases. This new set continues where that one left things. It’s more of the same punky hard rock that these guys are so good at creating. This is just another slab of similar stuff. That said, it’s equally effective, too. These guys just keep putting out good stuff.

Track by Track Review
Stuck in This Dam Hole

I dig the combination of old school hard rock (think “Humble Pie,” maybe) and a punky modern edge. The backing vocals work well. The guitar creates some great riffs. There’s a drop back to just drums and voice mid-track. This is really kind of a powerhouse tune. I love the tasteful guitar solo built into this beast.

I Got Something
The guitar on this thing is mean. This is very much a raw rock and roller. It’s more of a modern thing, with a definite punk edge to it.
Typical
I dig this song a lot. It has a lot of old school rock and roll in the mix. Yet, it’s set with a lot of punk energy. This is just a lot of fun. A lot of it is stripped back, but it rocks out at times. Some of the vocals are spoken dialog.
Mania

This is very much in line with a thrashy hardcore kind of sound. It has some classic rock in it, too, though. It’s fast paced, high energy and really cool.

Last Parade
Punk, old school rock and roll, folk music and more merge on this raw energized rocker. It’s another that’s a lot of fun. It includes some harmonica, too.
Found It
There is a punky hard rocking edge to this. Yes, for some reason, some of this actually feels like something Prince might have written. That applies to the more stripped down sections and the vocal arrangement. There is some scorching hot hard rocking music on the guitar solo section later.
