This disc has a pretty wide range of sounds. Parts of it land firmly in country music territory. Other tunes get into pop rock. There are even things that have alternative rock in them. It's all successful, but some of it works better than others.
While there is a healthy helping of alternative rock and pop in the mix here, this is very much a country tune. The vocals bring a lot of that to the proceedings, but so does the slide guitar. It's a fun number with a lot of energy. That makes it an effective opener.
Stay
Now, this is full on pop rock music. It's not that far removed from some of the pop rock of the 1970s. It's a classy mellow rock tune with some great hooks.
Nashville Girl Folk music, country and pop rock all merge on this piece. It's an intriguing and effective cut.
Backseat Love
The early parts of this feel a bit awkward to me, but the country infused pop rock that makes up the later sections of the tune work much better. This gets into some seriously energized and catchy territory.
Right In The Middle
Energized country rocking sound is the concept here. This is a solid rocker.
Someone Else
This is a strong country ballad. It's a particularly effective piece of music.
One And The Same
Fast paced and quirky, this rocker feels like something Barenaked Ladies might do. It's a lot of fun.
Wildest Dreams
A mainstream pop rocker, this still has some country music built into it. It's energetic and catchy. It also has a cool guitar solo.
Anytime Anywhere
With plenty of country music in the mix, this is a solid pop rock piece that works well.
Pray For You
The horns and soulful female backing vocals bring a cool gospel vibe to this. It's a rocker that is effective and a bit of variety.
Emily The instrumental section on this number brings some great Americana. It is a mid-tempo rocker that's solid and a good closer.
