Amaris

Neon Colors

Review by Gary Hill

There was a time when music was delivered in the form of singles. The whole album concept is relatively new, emerging in the late 1960s. There is definitely a movement back toward that single-based mentality in the modern age. This set seems to be a fine example of that. There are a number of tracks here that tend to work better as singles than as part of a full album. If you like modern R&B based electronic styled pop music, you will find something to like here. It does have a bit of a tendency toward "samey" when you listen to the whole disc.

Track by Track Review
Deep Into Space

Mellow R&B and modern pop music merge on this number. It's a slow moving, rather balladic piece.

Bassline
More energetic and playful, this is interesting. It has a lot of layers of vocals. It's still set in the new pop meets R&B style.
Unsigned

The rhythmic elements are out front on this cut. The tune isn't a big change in terms of style. That said, it is more energetic than either of the previous pieces.

Swim On
I love the keyboard concept on this. It almost feels like what you might get if Vangelis collaborated with Amaris.
You Don't Know My Heart
Another with a lot of rhythmic content, this is a cool cut. It's one of the more intriguing ones here. I like the vocal arrangement, but the instrumental concepts are really shining stars here. There is a rap at the end of this.
Alien Games
There is a cool grind to this piece. It's energized and rather catchy. The keyboard section later in the track is interesting and sounds a bit video-game like.
Critical Orbit
A mellower tune, this is a bit trippy and quite cool.
Fever
Another that's very rhythmic, this has a great energy and vibe to it. It is very electronic.
Lonely Fighter
Not a big change, this one lands more toward the melodic (rather than rhythmic) side of things. It's a slower moving piece.
Tough Love
I like the energy and groove of this cut. The vocal arrangement is one of the best here, too. This has a lot of oomph built into it. It's a fun number and possibly the best song of the set.
Neon Colors
Another smooth pop song, this has a good vibe to it.
