Erich Mrak

Fake It (digital single)

Review by Gary Hill

Erich Mrak is working toward an ambitious goal. He's releasing a new single every month. There are going to be six total that will be assembled into an EP. This is the third of the series. It isn't as effective as the first two.

This review is available in book (paperback and hardcover) in Music Street Journal: 2019  Volume 3. More information and purchase links can be found at: garyhillauthor.com/Music-Street-Journal-2019.

Track by Track Review
Fake It
There are some EDM elements here, but this is more percussive in terms of the musical background than it is melodic. That's particularly true once it gets past the introduction. This is more of a hip hop piece than it is anything else. A lot of the vocals are raps, but there some sung ones, too. There are points where the processing on the voice is a bit annoying, too. Still, this has a solid groove and works reasonably well.
