Joan Torres's All Is Fused Finale (ft. Bubby Lewis) (digital single) Review by Gary Hill I previously reviewed an album from this act. That landed under prog, largely because we generally put fusion there, but also because it had some prog elements. This fits into that category for the same reason. This is actually an alternate version of a song from that album. The featured Bubby Lewis is a bass player, and hearing this song should explain why he's featured. Finale (ft. Bubby Lewis) A spacey sort of introduction opens this. Lush keyboard textures weave a spell. The number works out gradually from there into a cool fusion styled jam with an emphasis on those keys. More traditional fusion sounds emerge as they move it forward. After the two-minute mark the cut drops to a rhythm section dominated movement. It continues to evolve from there, though, firing back out into some smoking hot jamming. Don't ignore the bass work on this cut because it's downright impressive, but you'd expect that given the nature of this collaboration. The whole piece just grooves and shines, though. Don't get complacent on this thing because just as soon as it settles into one place, it evolves into something quite different. There is plenty of progressive rock built into this right alongside the more pure fusion. It's a smoking hot tune.
