Procol Harum

Missing Persons (Alive Forever)

Review by Gary Hill

This new release from Procol Harum is essentially a single or an EP, depending on how you look at it. It has two songs with a radio edit of the first one taking up the third slot on the CD. This is trademark Procol Harum. It's also very strong. The two unique tunes have very different sounds. My only complaint is that I wish there was more music because I love this. Then again, it's alway good to leave them wanting more, so consider this a smashing success, I suppose.

This review is available in book (paperback and hardcover) form in Music Street Journal: 2021  Volume 4. More information and purchase links can be found at: garyhillauthor.com/Music-Street-Journal-2021.

Track by Track Review
Missing Persons (Alive Forever)
The keyboard section that brings this into is trademark Procol Harum. As the vocals join, this piece reminds me of something I can't quite place. It becomes a classy mid-tempo rock number. This is a great modernizing of a classic Procol Harum sound. There are some interesting changes and varying movements built into it.
War Is Not Healthy
I love the groove on this tune. It has a classic sound. There is a healthy helping of soul music here. The guitar brings some blues rock edges to it. This is both fun and meaty.
Missing Persons (Alive Forever) (Radio Edit)
Truth in advertising, this is what it says it is. It is every bit as strong in this format.
