I would have to say that Godsmack was the band most people came to see for Mayhem Fest 2011. I heard all kinds of buzz about them earlier in the day from multiple people standing next to me. When they took the stage my suspicions were confirmed. The crowd just went nuts. I was directly in front of the stage and in front of a few thousand crazy metal heads taking pictures. The crowd did everything they could to pummel me. Security could barely keep up with them. The mosh pit was just off the hook.

These guys know how much they are loved and it shows tremendously in their overall demeanor. They are hams through and through. Every second of their show is an opportunity to show all their poses and glam. This is a good example of a modern day glam rock band.

They sure have plenty of talent. I cannot argue with that, especially seeing the diversity of the long time lead singer, Sully Erna, playing in a dual drum kit solo with their drummer, Shannon Larkin.  A lot of people don’t know, but Erna had played the drums for about 23 years before joining Godsmack. I would have to say he is still pretty darn good at beating the skins.

This was an overall rocking show, but I will mention that these guys are getting more and more glam in their appearance and their musical style. I really hope they don’t slide down that slippery slope of fame chasing and that they record some heavier material next time they are in the studio.
