Chimaira

Live in Joliet, Illinois, October, 2011

Review by Mike Heitzman

We were all pretty excited to see this show. It is great seeing a powerhouse like Chimaira in a little establishment up close and personal. We got there just as the first band, Rise to Remain, was playing and the house was already pretty packed and rocking away.

Chimaira's rage could be heard throughout the complex. The volume almost doubled when they took the stage. It was especially a treat when they played some of their old stuff and the sonic booms came through perfectly, just like when I heard them in the old days. It was a very good sound system and was mixed perfectly.

They blasted out old and new favorites just like you would expect from listening to their CDs. Of course they played the title track from their new CD, The Age of Hell, then went on to play a variety of tunes from their other five albums. They have such a wide variety of songs and sounds to present to their fans when playing live now. It is way better than when I saw them tour for the first CD, Pass out of Existence. The keyboardist even brings a variety to the show as he adds a lot of back ground vocals, and even came out and sang lead for one song. I would go see these guys again any time they are back around.
