Cro-Mags

The Final Quarrel: Live at CGBG 2001 DVD

Review by Gary Hill

Punk should be raw and angry, and Cro-Mags definitely deliver. There is so much energy and angst on the stage you can almost think of them as extra members of the band. These guys were the real deal and truly delivered a killer show. The only complaint here is that the video is dark and the audio is not what I’d call great either. Of course, to a certain degree that adds to the charm of punk.

The cool thing about this DVD, though, is that the Cro-Mags show is just the beginning. You also get a whole slew of bonus material. There are two items that really stand out, though. The first is a full set from Harley’s War – Cro-Mags bassist Harley Flannigan’s post Cro-Mags band. This set is every bit as good as the Cro-Mags show and is actually quite a bit better in terms of video and audio quality. I’m also really taken by the heartfelt tribute to the club and icon that was CBGB’s.

The final analysis, if you like your punk live and real, you really should check out Cro-Mags, and this is as good a place as any to start. You won’t be disappointed.
