Musicares: A Tribute to Brian Wilson DVD

Review by Gary Hill

From The Red Hot Chili Peppers to The Back Street Boys this is a concert that featured diverse performers covering the songs of Brian Wilson. While I'm not a big Beach Boys fan, I found that some of the showings were simply spectacular, while others didn't excite me so much. I would say that the Richie Sambora rendition of “City Blues” is worth the ticket price alone. I have to say that the announcer introducing each performer is a little annoying, but just ignore that and enjoy the show. The really great thing about this DVD (and the show itself) is that a portion of the sale goes to Musicares – an organization that provides assistance to musicians in their time of need. You can support a great cause and check out some great music by purchasing this DVD. Beach Boys and Brian Wilson fans should be all over this, but anyone who enjoys classic rock should also consider picking it up. With appearances by such artists as Earth Wind and Fire, Michael McDonald, Billy Preston, Barenaked Ladies and Jeff Beck (and more), there's bound to be something here for everyone.
