Korn
Live at Montreux 2004 DVD
Review by Gary Hill
I love Korn. They are one of my favorite of the newer metal bands. Their particular take on metal is funky and strange, but also very cool. The thing is, it is NOT jazz!
In addition to loving Korn, I love the Montreux Jazz Festival. These guys have been putting together awesome shows for more years than most people remember. But anymore they seem to have forgotten the "jazz" in the name of the festival. Frankly, I think either they should rename it "The Montreux Music Festival" or create a new festival and keep the "Jazz Festival" restricted to "Jazz Music." It seems like a simple equation. OK, I'm done with my complaining here.
So, what do we get here. Well, this is an awesome performance from Korn that shows that they can produce their killer sound live equally well as they do in the studio. It's a great show. The video and sound quality are both excellent - like the whole series. I have to say that this Live at Montreux series is one of the most consistently strong series of concert videos you'll find. Combining the quality of the series with the killer performance of Korn is a win-win. It would have been nice to get some bonus features, but as strong as this is, we can overlook that. If you are a Korn fan, pick this up. You won't be disappointed. For those who haven't checked out the band yet, this would be a great introduction. Besides, what are you waiting for? If you like adventurous heavy music, you'll love Korn. I know, I do. Did I mention that before?
