ZZ Top
Live From Texas DVD
Review by Gary Hill
I saw ZZ Top live once in the ‘80’s and thought the show was downright boring. I had always figured that they weren’t that great live and that’s why they hadn’t released a live video. Now comes this set to smash that assumption to little pieces. After seeing this I have to believe that I saw a bad show from a band that has great live performances (hey, it happens to the best of them).
You get a set list that would seem like a classic radio programmer’s play list. You get stellar performances from all involved – this little ole band from Texas can surely rock! Yeah, at times they come across as a little sloppy, but that’s rock and roll. What’s never missing is a rocking energy and power. This is a great concert and has me thinking that I need to see the guys again.
The video and audio are both very good. You also get some cool bonuses on this, but my favorite of those is the interview segment. They interviewed the group during a poker game – now how much more ZZ Top can you get than that. The truth of the whole matter is, if you’ve ever liked ZZ Top at all, pick this up. It’s a great DVD and a lot of fun. You’ll find yourself popping it in over and over again.
