Trevor Horn and Friends – Slave to the Rhythm DVD

This is an interesting DVD. As a Yes fan I’ve always been fascinated with the hit machine that Trevor Horn has been in terms of a producer. This concert (from 2004) is dedicated to just such a thing. Horn assembled a number of artists he’s produced for a show that was to benefit The Prince’s Trust. For my money the most interesting performances were Art of Noise, The Buggles and Yes – (OK, it was billed as Yes, but Jon Anderson wasn’t part of it and in an intriguing surprise we see Trevor Rabin on stage with the group – in addition to Steve Howe – even though he hadn’t been in the band in many years. Also Geoff Downes provides the keys as part of the house band), but really there isn’t a bad performance here. Runner up for me is ABC as I’ve always liked that group a lot, too. Seal and Frankie Goes to Hollywood are also especially noteworthy. We also get some interview bits of people talking about the effect that Horn had on their records. All in all this is a cool video with some great music. It should appeal to music fans across a wide spectrum of music because this is all hit material.
