The Moody Blues

Threshold Of A Dream: Live at the Isle of Wight Festival DVD

Review by Gary Hill

I have always liked the Moody Blues. So, I looked at this DVD with anticipation. My excitement was rewarded as this is quite a cool package. A companion CD was previously released and I reviewed that separately so if you’d like more detailed information about the music check that one out. This is a better release than that because there’s a lot more to it. For one thing just the video of the show adds a lot. Considering this was filmed in 1970 you can’t expect modern quality, but the truth is, the video and sound are both quite good. If they had stopped there this would be well worth having, but in fact there’s a whole lot of documentary footage in front of it – showcasing the phenomenon that was this festival, interviews with the band and a lot more. All of it makes for a documentary film kind of feel with a concert as the capper. You just can’t beat that. Parents should be advised that this was the hippie generation so you will see some nudity. Keep that in mind when deciding whether or not to let the kids watch. All in all this is a great DVD that captures the band in their prime. I recommend the CD, but I would give an even more enthusiastic recommendation to this DVD.
