The Rolling Stones

Stones in Exile DVD

Review by Gary Hill

Imagine this DVD as a snapshot of the Rolling Stones in a specific time period, the recording of Exile on Main Street. This is achieved with archival footage, and interviews of people who were involved with the recording and those who were influenced by the Rolling Stones. I’d consider this to be an exceptional release, but it’s not perfect. For one thing, it’s a little short. For another, some of the interviews with people who weren’t there are a little unnecessary. The archival audio bits of the recording sessions themselves are priceless and there is so much material here that is absolutely mandatory for Rolling Stones fans.

This review is available in book format (hardcover and paperback) in Music Street Journal: 2010  Volume 4 at lulu.com/strangesound.
