Carl Palmer

Drum Solos DVD

Review by Gary Hill

This DVD is one that’s mostly just for drummers. That’s because the content is designed to be a drum lesson. A number of Palmer’s drum solos are included here, and in several timings, allowing them to be viewed at slower speeds. Note for note transcriptions are included as pdf files. For drummers who are also Carl Palmer fans this is a “must have.” For ELP and Palmer fans who aren’t drummers, but want everything out there by Palmer, this is also a “must have.” For everyone else, it’s an intriguing DVD, but probably not something you’ll be extremely anxious to add to your collection.

This review is available in book format (hardcover and paperback) in Music Street Journal: 2011  Volume 2 at lulu.com/strangesound.
