Heaven and Hell

Live Radio City Music Hall 2007 BluRay

Review by Gary Hill

When this was originally released on DVD, Greg Olma reviewed it for Music Street Journal. Really, I stand by his review of the set. This is an exceptional concert and it was captured in great fashion for video. Rather than a lot of quick cuts, it was filmed like a real concert video and the whole event was filmed, in sequence. Those things make the DVD great. Well, all of that is magnified here because the sound and video are above and beyond the quality of the DVD, which was great to begin. Also, since the release on DVD, Ronnie James Dio passed away. All the original bonuses from the DVD are included here, but there’s an additional one that’s a tribute to Dio. That includes a lot of interviews with Dio, and it’s a great homage, but it’s also sad. He was talking about how he wanted to continue doing music for a while and then retire to enjoy just doing nothing. He also spoke about Dio projects and a few other things he wanted to do before retiring, also unfinished aspirations. Ronnie James Dio was a man who died before his time. That’s sad. However, this package is really a lasting tribute to him.
