Doobie Brothers

Live at the Greek Theatre DVD

Review by Gary Hill

It’s hard to imagine a fan of the Doobie Brothers not enjoying this DVD. It’s a video release of a concert that was filmed for Showtime. Since it was filmed for a pay cable network, the quality was top-notch to begin with and then they revised the video and audio dramatically. It’s a record of their 1982 Farewell tour and includes performances with Michael McDonald as the frontman, but it also includes the original singer Tom Johnston. That makes it kind of a “best of both worlds” thing. The truth is, who doesn’t like the Doobie Brothers? They might not have been as flashy as some other bands of the time period, but they had the hits. This is a great set that includes bonus tracks and interviews. All in all, whether you are a fan of the early Tom Johnston period of the group, the Michael McDonald era or both, this is for you. Whether you are a casual fan or a hardcore devotee, you will want this. It’s the real deal and a killer set.
