Blackmore's Night

A Knight In York – DVD

Review by Larry Toering

This DVD comes in a few formats, the other two being CD and DVD Audio (which contains both the CD and BluRay versions). They filmed it in HD and did everything right concerning all of that, but left several tracks from the actual concert off the disc. This resulted in what is mostly a set from their latest release Autumn Sky, with only four more songs from their now vast back catalog. Yet there were actually ten more played on that night in York. If I were to have one thing different it would be to have the full set included.

That being said, this show is as good as the performances on their last two DVD's, with “Castles and Dreams,” being my pick. I do think it was generous of them to play so many songs from their current record, but that wasn't all they played so it just tends to dominate the set more than it should. Still each and every track is great. Tunes. Features include such gems as “Journeyman” and “Highland,’ and they really do please, and show them at their A-game. But although this is not the best Blackmore's Night release altogether, one could certainly argue that it's not their worst either. They have come a long way and earned their choices. The overall final result here is another fine standard product.
