Air Supply

Live in Hong Kong DVD

Review by Gary Hill

Did you know that Air Supply is still around? I didn’t. I mean, they were a big deal in the very beginning of the 1980s, but seemed to fall off the radar after that. The thing is, they have still been playing concerts and recording albums this whole time. This particular concert was filmed in 2013. It includes all the hits you know and some songs from the album they had released in 2010. The concert sound and the videography are both top-notch. I did find the crowd scenes to be a bit odd. That’s because for the most part the audience just sort of sat there listening. I will say, though, that the audience seemed to be filled with a wide range of age groups. Everyone seemed to enjoy the show, they just weren’t very expressive about showing that fact. I’d have to say that these guys rock out just a little bit more than I remember. I always thought they were talented, if a bit overproduced. Hearing the songs in this live setting is an improvement, I think. The only bonus feature is a short “making of” thing. I’d like to have seen a little more in that department. Still, if you’ve ever liked Air Supply, I suggest giving this one a try. It’s a good way to catch up with the band.
