On With The Show DVD

Review by Greg Olma

This documentary was started a couple of years ago and funding was crowd sourced so, as fans we basically made this DVD happen.  It is certainly worth the wait because this  goes above and beyond my expectations.  Things start off at the very beginning by telling the story of the guys  almost from birth.  We get early stories and pictures of the original band members leading up to the formation of early incarnations before settling in on the version that recorded all those classic records.

I have been a fan for a long time and there was a wealth of information about the beginning that I did not know.  One of them was the story about how they got their original name Yesterday  And Today.  It seems they needed a band name and while Leonard Haze was on the phone with a promoter, he happened to look at his record collection and he saw The Beatles Yesterday and Today album. That prompted him to give the promoter that name.  Its little stories like that that make this documentary so enjoyable.  The DVD is narrated by Eddie Truck, and he does a good job, but the real interest here is the interviews with the  guys themselves.  All the members are interviewed for this DVD release except Phil Kennemore, who sadly passed away in 2011.

There is a lot of old footage along with interviews from musicians of that era like Eric Martin and Sammy Hagar.  The story starts at the beginning and goes all the way up to the arrival of newest member Aaron Leigh, so what you get is almost to the present.  If the main feature wasn’t enough, you get a second disc of bonus material that I think is even longer than the documentary.  All in all, this is an impressive DVD that tells the story of a legendary band told through, not only the band members themselves, but friends, family and fans.
