Kiss

The Second Coming DVD

Review by Greg Olma

I have been a Kiss fan since 1975, but at the time I was too young to go to concerts to see the band.  Instead, I had to enjoy the group through pictures and the occasional TV appearance.  Fast forward to 1996, and the time was right for a full-fledged reunion with the original line up. This time I was old enough to catch the band in a live setting.  Having witnessed all the Chicago and Milwaukee area shows, I was thrilled when the band released this documentary on the reunion.  The DVD starts off with a short Kisstory lesson with some early footage and even touches upon the make-up free years.  As the years passed, and the original member’s paths crossed, it seemed time to reform and the "MTV Unplugged" show was the perfect start.  The DVD moves along in chronological order as to what happened next in the reunion, and we are given access to what was going down behind the scenes.  Plenty of rehearsals and build up went into the ’96 reunion tour, so it is great to get a glimpse into what it takes to make something like the Kiss machine run.  Once the tour started, we get snippets of concerts and go behind the scenes to see the guys banter among themselves getting ready for shows.  While I wish they would have included more live footage or a couple of complete songs, the DVD was still very enjoyable.
