Professor Louie

and the Crowmatix - Music From Hurley Mountain DVD

Review by Gary Hill

This is an unusual and very intriguing music video. The songs presented here are all based on the history of an area of New York known as Hurley. This is sort of part music video and part documentary. There are interview segments featuring the musicians, but there are also interviews with members of the Hurley Historical Society. The interviews tell much of the history captured in the songs, while also talking about the creation of the music. Those are intercut with music videos of the songs.

This music is essentially folk rock, but it's also highly art based. I have to say that the video really gives a deeper understanding and appreciation of both the music and the performances. It also provides some interesting history lessons. I know I tend to be a little bit of a history buff, but I have to think that those who aren't as interested in history will find some real points of interest within.
