Dio

Dreamers Never Die - Deluxe Edition DVD/Blu-ray Set

Review by Gary Hill

I can't heap enough praise on this set. Everything about it is top-notch. You wouldn't expect anything less from Dio, though, would you? This set is so cool that I've done one of our MSJ Bonus features videos to show off everything included. So, I'll just say that it's packed full of interesting bonuses and direct you to that video for more information.

So, what do we get in terms of the main course? Well, the documentary here is presented on both DVD and Blu-Ray in this set. That documentary is obviously a labor of love, but it's also very professional. They take the subject seriously, but also include some humor.

This is a career-spanning look at the man, the legend, the musical powerhouse that was Ronnie James Dio. I'm fortunate that I not only got to see him with his solo show and Heaven and Hell, but I got to meet him once. I found him to be a warm and genuinely nice man. That comes across i this video.

The list of people interviewed here includes Vinnie Appice, Sebastian Bach, Jack Black, Geezer Butler, Wendy Dio, Lita Ford, Rob Halford, Tony Iommi and Bill Ward. I knew quite a bit about Dio going into this video. I know a lot more now. The man was one-of-a-kind and so is this set. If you have ever been a fan of heavy metal, and particularly Dio, you need to own this. Personally I first became a fan of the man when he was with Rainbow and followed him from there. I am sure there are people out there who started with him even earlier. Whatever your connection, it's a fact that there will never be another Ronnie James Dio, but this is an amazing tribute to him.
