Q & A with Derek Sherinian From 1998

MSJ: How would you say the sound of Dream Theater has changed over the years, and where do you see it going? |
It is less dungeons and dragon sounding. I have brought in an American rock n roll, blues, jazz, retro vibe to DT |
MSJ: Projects like Liquid Tension Experiment are great. What do you think gets brought back to the band from something like this and what future projects of this sort are in the works? |
The side projects give us all a chance to explore other musical channels separate from the mothership if you will. I think that it is healthy. (Editor`s note:Derek is currently working on a side project called Platypus featuring Derek Sherinian, John Myung, Ty Tabor and Rod Morgenstein. More info will be found at this site, as it becomes available) |
MSJ: What kinds of changes are going to be made to the setlist (length of show, etc) to shift from headlining to doing the opening slot? |
It will be difficult, I am sure Mike Portnoy will find it a Herculean task! |
