Chet O’Keefe Because of You Review by Gary Hill If you like your folk delivered with a lot of country, you might like this. If you enjoy your country with a very traditional flair, this is probably your kind of thing. This disc is mostly mellow stuff. Much of it also feels like something that could have been released in the 1960s. It’s primarily very old school, and also quite solid. Track by Track Review

Not Drunk Yet This folk styled tune is classy. It just has such a nice vibe to it. It’s slow and quite mellow. It’s also very cool.

True Love This slice of life number has some hints of country music. Beyond that, it’s more of the same type of folk music we heard on the opener. It’s another great tune.

Because of You Although this is still built on the same kind of folk music platform, it’s an electrified number that has a lot of rock in the mix. The guitar is classy stuff. The whole song just works so well. It reminds me a bit of something John Flynn might do.

Hick Tech (Nology) Old school country, bluegrass and folk all merge here. This is a fun number. It’s very much retro in tone.

Goin' Downtown No less retro in texture, this sheds the bluegrass. It’s more of a country folk piece.

Oh Angel This is such a beautiful folk ballad. It has some hints of country. It’s slow, but has such great sentiment. The instrumental section feels like something from an old school country album. While the female vocals on this are mostly subtle, they really add a lot to the mix.

Star Café With a lot of country music name checks, this is a slow moving country folk tune. It’s fun.

Drinkin' Day Very much a mellow old school country tune, I like this one a lot, too.

Blue Martin Intricate picked guitar opens this. The cut works out from there. This definitely lands more on the folk side of the equation than the country one.

Talking Kerrville Blues This is literally a talking cut. It’s the traditional talking country rockabilly kind of song. This is really classic.
