Von Konow

Cosmic (digital single)

Review by Gary Hill

This is a brand new single from a Finnish art rocker. This has some definite merits, but isn't completely my kind of thing.

This review is available in book format (hardcover and paperback) in Music Street Journal: 2016  Volume 6 at lulu.com/strangesound.
Track by Track Review
Cosmic

Piano leads this out. Other keyboards join. Then the vocals enter, seeming a bit like some kind of musical theater performance. The cut works forward rocking out more from there. There is still a musical theater element present as it gets more energized. This is art rock for sure. Perhaps you can't call it "prog rock," but there are ties here. In some ways I'm definitely reminded of David Bowie on this. The trippy kind of instrumental break is pretty cool. This is interesting, and I like it a lot musically. The vocals, though, are a little too theatrical for my tastes.

(Editor's Note - Music Street Journal is set up for the allocation of albums, not singles - particularly not one-song singles. So, in the instances, like this one, where we've covered single song releases, we've had to make some adaptations for formatting. In the case of this one, just imagine both track review and overall review reading as one set of copy. )
