Love Ghost

Mr. Blue (digital single)

Review by Gary Hill

Love Ghost is an alternative rock act out of Los Angeles. One look at the lineup shows that this is no "run of the mill" rock band. You don't often find your average rock band with a viola player, but Mya Greene ably handles both that instrument and the keyboards. And, the viola isn't gimmick added to the number. It's an integral part of the song construction. These musicians  have created a tune that's edgy and creative, but still quite accessible. The lineup is rounded out by Finn Bell (guitar and vocals), Ryan Stevens (bass and background vocals) and Samson Young (drums).

Track by Track Review
Mr. Blue
The introduction on this is classy with a bass and viola driving it. As the arrangement fills out other instruments join, creating a more rocking texture. This has plenty of alternative rock angst built into it, but that's far from the full story. The viola solo later brings both some classical music and a bit of a prog texture to this. The chorus hooks have an almost Beatles-like catchiness to them. This is a prime case to repudiate those who say there is no quality music being made these days. This is a rich, dynamic and rather complex tune. Yet, it's still catchy and has some real edge to it.
