Cosmopolis Sécheresse (digital single) Review by Gary Hill This is definitely not progressive rock in the traditional old-school sense. That said, there is a shoegaze and post-punk sound here this is pure modern prog. This is a dramatic and potent tune that has quite a bit of evolution at its core. Sécheresse There is a dark but still restrained element as this opens. The track drives forward and an echoey vocal comes in over the top. There are layers and textures that come over the top as that first vocal movement works through. Then a dramatic shoegaze kind of sound is heard as it continues. Space rock textures are merged with an 80s sort of moodiness when it drops back a bit. The cut shifts out from there to a powered up and driving jam that that has a lot of 80s texture and a lot of modern post-punk type sounds built into it. A harder rocking element enters further down the road.
