Doc Straw & the Scarecrows

Get on By (digital single)

Review by Gary Hill

Let me just begin this by saying that, yes, there is a Doc Straw. His name is Mike Straw, and not only is he the main man behind this act, but he's a combat vet and a doctor of physical therapy. The music here is very much roots based, and it's also quite compelling.

Track by Track Review
Get on By
There are some real country and folk musical elements at the heart of this song. It has some cool hooks. I really love some of the instrumental fills. This is a rather subdued tune, but it still has a decent energy and drive to it. The multi-layered vocal arrangement is cool, too. When this powers up later with a bit of an electric blues vibe, the cut really soars. The harmonica is a nice touch, and the whole thing gets intensified in that movement.
