Mohamed Assani

Ayesha and the Mullah (digital single)

Review by Gary Hill

I've generally been landing the music from Mohamed Assani under progressive rock, mainly because of the way it creatively merges sounds into an artistic tapestry. That's why this single review is there. It's more of a world music turned psychedelic rock mode that is on display here. Whatever you call it, though, it works really well.

This review is available in book (paperback and hardcover) form in Music Street Journal: 2020  Volume 6. More information and purchase links can be found at: garyhillauthor.com/Music-Street-Journal-2020.

Ayesha and the Mullah
Sitar music brings this into being. The song builds outward and grows from there. It has an intriguing world music meets psychedelic rock vibe to it. I love the percussive elements at play on this number. The whole thing has an exotic groove to it that works well. It is a trippy instrumental exploration.
