Grace Womack Yellow Cowboy Hat Review by Gary Hill Given the title and cover, you might expect to get country music here. Well, that's not the kind of music Grace Womack delivers. This is more along the lines of pop and rock music, but there is some jazz and more in the mix depending on the tune. It's a solid set with strong vocals and good songwriting. Track by Track Review

Pity The Fool Piano starts this. As the vocals join it takes on a jazzy kind of groove. After the first vocal movement, the arrangement fills out into more of a full jazz treatment. I'm reminded of Rickie Lee Jones to some degree. This becomes more of a pop rock thing as it continues, but the jazz elements are never lost. .

Friendship An energetic tune, this has lot of pop and rock in the mix. It's a fun cut that has a lot of catchy hooks built into it. It's not a huge variation from the later portions of the opener, but this doesn't really have any of those jazz sounds remaining. The instrumental break on this has some almost Beatles-like qualities to it.

Oblivion We're back to piano and vocal zones as this song gets underway. The tune never gets any other instrumentation added, but it gets fairly intense and impassioned. The vocals really sell this one.

Yellow Cowboy Hat The title track is a high energy pop rocker with some jazz and a lot of funk in the mix. This really is a lot of fun.

Miss Tennessee This is a more reflective number. It has a real classic pop rock vibe to it. It's a highlight of the set.

How We Met The closer is another funky tune that is very classy.
