Nightingale

Review by Gary Hill

If you are a fan of electronic dance music, this EP might be something you'll enjoy. There are six songs here, but really it's only three. That's because this is made up of three vocal based songs followed by instrumental versions of those same three numbers. This is effective, but some pieces work better than others do.

This review is available in book (paperback and hardcover) form in Music Street Journal: 2022  Volume 4. More information and purchase links can be found at: garyhillauthor.com/Music-Street-Journal-2022.

Track by Track Review
Nightingale
Electronic dance music is at the heart of this number. The vocals are strong on this thing. The cut has a lot of style.
Rosemary
I don't think the musical arrangement on this is an interesting as that on the opener. However, the vocals here seem stronger.
Exemplar
I'd consider this to be the best of the three vocal versions here. This has a lot of electro-pop and dance music charm.
Nightingale Instrumental
Here we get an instrumental version of the title track. I bet you figured that out, right? It works pretty well like this. In fact, I think I prefer this to the vocal version. The music really gets to stand out more.
Rosemary Instrumental
This instrumental version is effective, but in this case, I prefer it with vocals. There is a pop music kind of thing at play here.
Exemplar Instrumental
I'd suggest that this one also worked better with vocals. Still, this is not bad.
