The Heard Eye Funkalypse Review by Gary Hill This group is a trio of musicians. This album showcases a lot of retro sounding numbers. As you might guess from the title, there is plenty of funk here, but not every song features that style. It's all effective and classy, though. Track by Track Review

Say It With The Night This is packed full of retro cool. It reminds me a little of the Rolling Stones in some ways. There is plenty of soulful edge to the tune. It's definitely classy. .

Do Whatchu Be They seriously bring the funk here. This is energetic and so much fun. It also shows off plenty of vintage sound. The horn solo on this is great.

Boomerang A bit less in your face with it, but really no less funky, this has such a cool groove. It's another winner, delivering more tasty retro class and charm. I'm reminded a little of some of David Bowie's funky stuff at times here.

Job Growth The funky angles are still at play here. This doesn't work as well as the songs that preceded it, though. It just feels a little too busy at times. That's only a problem at points, though, and even then just one of degrees. This is another solid slab of retro sounding magic.

Free Everybody Hard rocking, funky and particularly tasty, this is a cool rocker.

Mr. Grifter This is another cool funk-laden rocker. It's another standout tune.

Always Now This rocker works pretty well. It's perhaps not at the same level of some of the other stuff here. The funk is pretty much gone. There is a bit of a punky, hard-edged sound in its place.

Tornado There is some Latin texture to this. It's a classy tune that brings a different flavor to the album.

Bahia Amor I like this rocker quite a bit. It has a bit of a jazz rock element at play. It makes me think of groups like Blood Sweat and Tears.

Funkalypse The funk is back home to roost on the title track. You probably figured that out from that title, though, right. The tune isn't a favorite of mine, though. It's too repetitive and doesn't really stand as tall as a lot of the rest here.

Vimana This instrumental is packed full of jazzy cool. It's a great tune that's actually one of my favorites here. It's not really funky, but has some retro Latin jazz vibes at play.
