This is one of three CDs from Coincidence I’ve reviewed for this issue of Music Street Journal. This instrumental release features a great blend of progressive rock and fusion. Each track has its own identity, but it all works nicely together. I’m not sure if I can pick a favorite of the three releases, but this one would certainly be a likely candidate if I do.

The introduction to this has some real fast-paced prog at its core. From there this shifts to fusion sort of sounds. The track drives with a lot of style and charm merging fusion and more pure prog stuff at times. Different sections lean it more one way or the other. This works through some cool shifts and turns.

This is less intense and more playful. It has a real jazz vibe at its core. It’s classy, but perhaps not as impressive as the opener way.

Mellower prog textures are on the menu here. This is a classy piece of music.

Fusion and more mainstream jazz merge on this romp. It’s another classy tune.

Frantic, quirky and rather playful, this is a real powerhouse tune. This is funky, fusion-oriented and reminds me to some degree of The Dregs. It’s a killer tune with some great twists and turns.

There is a cool building, driving prog sound at the heart of this piece. It isn’t quite as strong as some of the rest, but it works pretty well.

This is playful and has a healthy helping of fusion built into it. Despite the title, I can’t make out a lot of reggae in the mix.

The mix of rock and fusion sounds on this works really well. The track has plenty of style and charm. It also has some great energy.

Effective, playful fusion is on the menu here. This is a strong cut, and it makes for a great closer.
