Rigor Mortis

Welcome To Your Funeral: The Story Of Rigor Mortis (Part 1) DVD

Review by Gary Hill

You might not have heard much about Rigor Mortis, depending on your particular musical tastes and desire to dig deeply into a genre of music. The thing is, a lot more people have heard of Phil Anselmo. In a lot of ways, it’s a tribute to the importance of this band that Anselmo is the narrator for this documentary. This really is an important, if often overlooked, group. This documentary doesn’t really pull any punches either It’s not some “shine it up and make it look glorious” fluff piece. Instead it’s a genuine and honest look at a metal band that metal fans should really know. The band’s passion for their music (and the horror genre) really comes out in this DVD. It also delivers a look inside the Dallas/Fort Worth metal scene. If you’ve never heard of these guys, or heard of them, but never heard them, or if you are a long-time fan, this comes highly recommended. And, it’s only the first part.

This review is available in book format (hardcover and paperback) in Music Street Journal: 2016  Volume 2 at lulu.com/strangesound.
