Tommy Bones

EP

Review by Gary Hill

This debut EP shows a band with a lot of promise. If you like hard edged, just plain mean, music with strong helpings of Guns N Roses, Godsmack, Stone Temple Pilots, Rob Zombie and others, then you really need to check this out. The format tends to wear a little thin by the end, but it’s only five tracks – so it can’t really suffer much from being monolithic. All in all, this is a fine first effort from a band with a lot of talent.

Track by Track Review
Walk In Hell
Murderous Rage

I love the riff that leads us out here. It’s got a great vintage sound. They turn this into a screaming metal stomper from there. In keeping with the title, this thing gets pretty mean.

My Hate
This piece alternates between a dark, melodic, mellow motif and a more fierce jam. The lyrics will definitely earn these guys a parental advisory. In a lot of ways this reminds me of Stone Temple Pilots or Alice In Chains, but with a more full metallic texture.
Fight
More of a pure screamer, this one has a lot of those Rob Zombie and Godsmack influences. It’s a killer grind.
Burn
This might be the meanest piece on the set. And that from a track that starts and ends mellow with just percussion. It’s another good tune, but it’s a good thing this is just an EP because the formula is wearing thin by this point.
