Winter EP

Review by Gary Hill

I’ve reviewed something from this act before, and enjoyed it. I like this three song EP a lot, too. It has a great combination of classic and modern musical sounds. It doesn’t really feel content to sit in any one genre. I should say that it does get some parental advisories, though. This is like classic R&B meets hip hop meets electronic music and more. It’s all good, too.

This review is available in book format (hardcover and paperback) in Music Street Journal: 2015  Volume 1 at lulu.com/strangesound.

Track by Track Review
STRNGRS

The fast paced rapping is classy. The musical mix is electronic and weird for most of the duration. Some other vocals in the mix, though, lend a soulful texture at times. There are parts of this that make me think of OutKast. This does score a definite parental advisory.

Andromeda (Feat. BoneLang)
Getting even more parental advisories, this is angry and powerful. It’s more of a stripped back arrangement, but the rapping makes up for that for sure. There are some moments where the music is lusher, too. If anything, I like this better than I like its predecessor.
Mind over Matter (Feat. OYE)
The best was saved for last. This is quite a beautiful piece of music. It has an excellent slow groove to it. It’s very R&B and electronic in nature. The only issue here to me is the odd abrupt ending.
