Bad Reed

Bad Reed

Review by Gary Hill

Perhaps this isn’t all progressive rock music. The thing is, there is a lot of prog in the mix. And, of the three songs, all are artsy. So, I suppose at the very least “art rock” fits. I like this stuff quite a bit. I’d love to hear more from this outfit.

Track by Track Review
Punch It

This comes in a bit moody and very psychedelic. It’s quite trippy. The female vocals come in with a powerful delivery and the song really becomes a proggy masterpiece. In a lot of ways it makes me think of Pink Floyd. The synthesizer over the top really lends more prog to the mix. It gets rocking a lot harder as it continues. This is a great song and excellent way to start the set.

Slackjaw Romance
This is a very artsy kind of piece. It’s modern rock. It’s a bit fun and playful. It’s also tastefully strange.
Cassava
Here’s another masterpiece. This has a great combination of mellower music and harder rocking. Things from metal, jazz, psychedelia and more are merged on this thing. It’s very much progressive music for sure. It has a very dynamic arrangement and structure. More importantly, though, it’s incredibly powerful. It works through some great passages.
