Ese

All In

Review by Gary Hill

The music on this disc is raw punk rock. It’s high energy, full of angst and very tasty. Parental advisories abound here. This is definitely not emo – or even close to it. It’s real punk and quite strong at that.

This review is available in book format (hardcover and paperback) in Music Street Journal: 2016  Volume 1 at lulu.com/strangesound.

Track by Track Review
Badass Fatass

Well, they waste no time earning a parental advisory, right on the opening spoken bit. The cut is raw, furious and killer. It’s definitely punk rock, but there is a rather melodic bridge, too.

Ghetto Ese Style
There is no big change here, but another fast paced punk song. It does have some hints of metal, though.
Got New Dreams
After a more melodic opening section, this lands closer to hardcore. It’s furious and I love the gang chorus.
Nobody
While there are no real changes here, this is another scorching hot punk tune. It does have a lot of hardcore in the mix. I love the vocal arrangement.
Not Going Down
We get some screaming hot hard rock here. This is less punk and more furious guitar based classic rock with a raw edge. The guitar on this really screams. It reminds me a bit of D.O.A.
Got Nothing To Say
Punk rock merges with a similar sound to the last cut. The guitar solo section on this is very much classic rock. I love the furious section later in the piece.
P***ed Off
This is classy punk rock. It’s suitably angry. Funny enough, it’s also a bit catchy.
Stoney Baloney
Almost like two songs, there is a real classic rock vibe to this. Yes, it’s raw. Yes, it’s punk. It also has a real classic blues rock thing going. The first section works through the song proper. Then it powers out to an old school guitar rock jam type thing.
Texas Guns
This cut starts off very much like Motorhead. It turns more purely punk from there, but overall, it’s not far removed from Lemmy’s band.
The Difference
I’m reminded of Motorhead on this screamer, too.
Guacamole (Texas Tornados)
This is more raw. It’s more like hardcore, but not as furious as that suggests. There is a weird section later with some traditional Mexican music instrumentation.
Wasted
Another killer punk meets classic rock jam, this is a nice one.
