Katie Ferrara

Dream Catcher

Review by Gary Hill
This is a cool set of music. I suppose the most obvious comparison would be to Jewel, but Katie Ferrara has her own sound. This set accomplishes the goal of "leave them wanting more." I really wish it was more than just six songs. Every tune is really strong. Each piece has its own identity, too. Yet, it all manages to gel together.

This review is available in book format (hardcover and paperback) in Music Street Journal: 2016  Volume 6 at lulu.com/strangesound.
Track by Track Review
In Your Arms

Backwards tracking and atmospheric elements open the disc. The song eventually settles into a rather folky vein that's pretty and catchy. This is classy pop rock styled music.

Jackets
There is a rather dreamy, soaring element to this cool number. Some of the keyboard sounds bring a bit of a bluesy texture to things. The arrangement gets very involved and powerful near the end.
I Want You
Another mainstream pop rock tune, there are some hints of country music in the mix here. It's another winner, really.
When Stars Collide
Americana, country and blues all show up in the mix here. This is a bit more of a rocker than the previous tunes were. It's no less effective or powerful.
One Wish
More of that Americana based sound dominates this number. It's a classy tune.
Whisper To Me
Another classy tune, this isn't a huge change. It's very effective, though. It leans toward the mellower end but gets pretty involved. The bass on this really brings some jazz to the proceedings later.
