Helga Arvesten

Naked (digital single)

Review by Gary Hill

"Progressive music" clearly works as a description of this piece. It's perhaps a bit lacking in the rock department, but this is art-music for sure. This is the third single from this artist that I'm reviewing in this issue. I'm more comfortable landing this one under prog than I was the other two, and those fit.

This review is available in book format (hardcover and paperback) in Music Street Journal: 2018  Volume 1 at  garyhillauthor.com/Music-Street-Journal-2018.

Track by Track Review
Naked
A processed piano sound opens this. As the vocals enter there is sort of an artsy electronic sound at play. As this evolves it takes on an almost classical approach, but delivered with more prog styled sounds. This is the most artsy of the three songs. This is the least mainstream of these three songs. It's also the most dramatic and powerful. Of the three this is my favorite. The later sections of this do take on more of a rock element, but they are also quite symphonic.
